I spent part of most mornings sitting on the rug… a telephone on the other
I sat on the rug in the dark… as I waited for a teenager to come home
the rug anchored what appeared to be a jolly family in a portrait taken at Amanda’s wedding
Tom and I stretched sleeping bags on the rug … listened as the groom tossed pebbles…
her own golden girl crawled across the expanse of old wool
baby blankets, bright plastic toys and stuffed animals covered the rug
Bags of photos record this first grandchild within the rug’s confines
Every surface above rug level was filled with food at the wedding of Sam and Jennifer
Toby’s bride, Josephine, walked from the rug into the California sunshine

The rug witnessed the wedding of Sam and Jennifer

After all the children had moved out, the rug was placed beneath her bed.
The rug eventually went to Amanda’s family.
