HEY THIS IS VIVIAN :D
ya ALL THESE ARE THE GEOG ANSWERS
HELP URSELF :D

Hi Creshelle,
Sorry that this has come in a little late. The slides for the Uses of the River just came in and I am suppose to teach it. That will probably be done in the next lesson.
Meanwhile, here are a set of notes on this topic that I've promised to email to you to pass to the class. I will try and send it for printing for your class, but meanwhile, please pass it to the rest of the class.
Thank you!
Study hard,
Mr Yanyeap, so here are the notes (: jiayou!
USES OF THE RIVER
1. Hydro-electric power
- dams built across
large
rivers
-
great force of water turns turbo-generator to produce
electricity
2. Irrigation
- water
obtained from river used to irrigate crops
3.
Transport
- rivers provide a cheap means of transport for people and good, especially
heavy and bulky goods
4. Fertile Alluvial
Soil
-
rivers build up fertile alluvial flood plans and
deltas
-
good for
agriculture
- alluvium is renewed when the river
floods
-
flood plains are flat and easy for people to build settlements
on
5. Tourist
Attractions
- river cruises to enjoy the
scenery
-
e.g. Niagara Falls
6. Domestic
Uses
-
water from river is used for cooking, washing and
bathing
7. Industrial
Uses
-
cooling of industrial machineries
8. Passageways across
mountains
9. Natural Boundaries between
Countries
- e.g. Niagara River separates USA from Canada
10.
Recreation
- sporting activities e.g. white water rafting,
canoeing
-
fishing
Negative Impact of the
River
Flooding
•
Loss of lives and property
•
Many homeless people
• Crops
destroyed- famines
• Water
sources may be
contaminated.
• Diseases may
spread.
• Time and money
spent on cleaning up and restoration.
Natural
Barrier
• Unable to access to
opposite bank easily, especially of river is very wide.
• Bridge-building- e.g. of
humans overcoming natural barriers

JIAYOU FOR SCIENCE TEST TMR!!! ^-^Luv,
~=ISABEL=~
Hey all jiayan here :)
here's the massive speech ms neo wrote for us!
Last lesson in the afternoon (and of my life)
Hullo my beloved 1-Dearest!
It's your EX-teacher Miss Neo here. Yup, ex- already. Sorry that this
email is waaay overdue, I'm such a terrible procrastinator. (Please do
not be like me and do all your homework on time.)
Anyway, as I told you guys the other day, 10 weeks ago, I was really
kind of nervous about starting teaching, and part of me was filled
with dread because everyone knows students LOVE talking during class,
untucking their school uniform, talking back to teachers, not
listening to teachers, never doing their homework, etc etc...
True enough, I was not proven wrong.
In addition to the above list, I found out that students also harass
poor relief teachers during class until Poor Relief Teacher loses her
voice entirely. When Poor Relief Teacher lost her voice, students also
apparently found it VERY FUNNY and mimicked Poor Relief Teacher's
croaking.
Students also apparently are allowed to now ASK THEIR TEACHERS FOR
ANSWERS DURING TESTS. A certain student (whose name shall be withheld
as he is a minor) whom we shall, for example's sake, call MATTHEW can
even ask Poor Relief Teacher to give him the answers for TOMORROW'S
TEST. Wonderful, eh? Why not students set their own tests next time?
Suggest to the Principal? After all, according to a certain student
(whose name shall also be withheld as he is a minor), the entire
school runs by Richmond Time. Lessons only end and begin when Richmond
says so.
When Poor Relief Teacher tries to get Anonymous Noisy Class' answer by
banging her bottle on the table, certain students seem to find it so
damn amusing that they cannot stop laughing and in the end, make even
more noise. Once, Poor Relief Teacher tried to bang her marker on the
bottle and the cap flew off and a certain student (whose name shall
also be withheld as he is also a minor) whom let's just suppose is
called Toby laughed until he collapsed from his chair and Poor Relief
Teacher was so alarmed she wanted to call the ambulance.
Not to mention all the times when Poor Relief Teacher shouted and
shouted until she really feared that she might get throat cancer and
die because of all these little monsters!
So all these, plus countless other incidents made Poor Relief Teacher
understand why other teachers told her that kids these days are little
terrors and agree with them.
But then, Poor Relief Teacher was not that poor thing after all...
Being a student myself, I know and understand how lessons can get so
boring and terrible especially when you don't understand the subject
and ESPECIAL-SPECIALLY when your teacher is boring and droning on and
on and on and on, and you suddenly discover that your teacher's voice
is the best lullaby in the world. The only way to make lessons more
exciting and interesting is by talking to the teacher, right?
While I would have preferred if you kids had talked to me in the sense
that you kids ANSWERED THE POETRY QUESTIONS I ASKED, I must admit that
I really found your class a very interesting class to teach. Your
class was the noisiest class and that meant you ALL liked to talk a
lot and ask me a lot of random questions. Even when we were discussing
poetry, you all managed to distract me until I ended up talking about
something random, or irritate me so much that I had to resort to using
minor vulgarities (which made things worse, because the BOYS,
COUGHqingangCOUGH will all take that as a cue to start swearing), or
irritate me until I had to transform from Kind Relief Teacher into
SuperSarcastic/Talk-like-a-train Relief Teacher.
But I guess that helped relieve my boredom too from having to repeat
the same old things again and again and again... I found myself
looking at my schedule, staring at the words '1D' and thinking to
myself, "Haha, 1D again! I wonder what nonsense they're gonna amuse me
with today man..."
I don't know how I got to know your class better, but I remember once
when I bumped into some of you girls in the canteen! I think that you
girls were very sweet to have lunch with me too (even though a certain
person whom we shall call Sabrina for short STOLE MY PHONE AND STOLE
MY NUMBER. Invasion of privacy & Theft - I can sue you.) even though
it must be pretty uncool having lunch with a boring old teacher like
me, but you girls were telling me really funny stories about your old
teachers and your class.
Through the way you all talked about each other, I realised that what
made your class a little different was that you all were really
bonded, whether it was bonded AGAINST poor teachers or bonded to help
each other. There was a certain warmth in the way you spoke of your
class, and of your classmates, which I found really touching.
Added to that, I really did feel a sense of kinship towards your
class. Your class is generally considered mischievous and a bit
playful, but when I was a student, I seemed to end up with teacher
problems every year. Not just me, but my whole class. We were always
very playful and outspoken and mischievous, always always always
playing pranks with the teachers.
E.g., in Sec 1, my form teacher was VERYVERY short. Like only about
five apples tall. Then she always adjusted the teacher's chair to make
it the maximum height, but everytime before her lesson, we'll adjust
her chair to make it the shortest height and hide all her cushions.
But she wouldn't know, so when she sat down for the first time, only
her head could be seen over the table. FUNNY RIGHT. Hahaha, but damn
terrible lah. My poor sec1 teacher retired from teaching one year
after teaching us, which I hope was a coincidence.
In Sec 2, we had a new teacher as our form teacher. She hated us cos
we always called her hum chim peng behind her back (she really looked
like a hum chim peng). Then sometime in July, we got bolder and when
she asked us to answer physics questions, we will purposely throw in
the words 'hum chim peng' in our answer. E.g. "What is the answer to
Q2?" "Dunno leh, teacher. Cannot think now. Dunno why I see you I
suddenly feel very hungry, like I wanna eat hum chim peng like that."
She eventually figured out hum chim peng was her nickname, and she
scolded us till she cried in August and she walked out halfway of our
class to go directly to the vice-principal's office to quit being our
form teacher. Sia la, damn drama right? But that hum chim peng really
a bit siao ting tong one...
I got many more stories of my terrible childhood which really is
enough to fill a book. Like I said, I was always a bit of a shitty
student cos I got bored very easily. Almost all my friends were as
playful as me (many were worse) and so we got our fun from talking to
teachers and trying to piss them off, or make them talk about
something else in a bid to make lessons more fun. So, like I said, I
understand that poetry is a little bit hard to grasp, so I tried my
best to make my lesson delivery more casual and not so teacher-y. If I
had more time to plan my lessons, I would have thought of better ways
to teach you guys, and not always make yall do class discussions.
Although acting out the poems was pretty fun, huh? (When i say poetry
you say SLAM!!!)
So here, I realise that my email is super duper long and it's probably
as boring as your comprehension passages. I'M SORRY... At least you
don't have to summarise this into 140 words. Although, I guess it
could be summarised in 1 word: longwinded
Okay, my main point here:
Your class has really been an utter joy to teach. I'll often tell my
friends about the funny things your class says/does during my lesson
and they think you all are super cute. (But you all are not cute.
'Cute' is for babies. You all are COOL. 'Cool' is for mature kids &
adults.) I looked forward to going to your class, and when I was
struck down by that irritating illness, I was really very sad cos I
couldn't go teach you all. Anyway, even though my doctor gave me M.C.
and said I cannot go to school, I felt that you kids would definitely
be better medicine than staying at home and sleeping all day. (Even
though I'm sorry I passed my virus to you, my poor LA rep Qinting! I
will buy you a box of honey stars again if you want ok...
sorrysorrysorry!) Which was really true, cos even though you all made
fun of my stupid voice, I was very touched when you all sent me msges
asking me to take care - see that's what I meant by your class being
very warm and sincere and doing sweet little gestures like that.
I know you guys went through a minor rough patch in the past few
weeks, but you all stuck together and saw out the problem as a class.
Some of you were especially sweet to comfort your friends when they
needed a shoulder to cry on and it made me really happy that you were
there to offer your friend a shoulder to cry on, or just a listening
ear.
And what your class did for Teacher's Day for me was really awesome. I
was reallyreally touched and happy that your class did everything
together, like writing all the sweet little notes to me in the album,
like shouting HAPPY TEACHERS DAY in the video, writing all those
messages in the powerpoint and staying back as a class to surprise all
of us teachers (and take the chance to finally dump rubbish on us,
especially ME, right!!! Hahaha.) Not forgetting those people who went
the extra mile to plan the surprise (hello Creshelle & Qingang), to do
the video (hello Richmond), to do the album thingy (hello Shafaye) and
all of those who stayed back to blow balloons, hang streamers, cut
paper, and those who stayed back to do the unpleasant task of cleaning
up the dirty classroom! It was really the BEST and most UNEXPECTED
surprise of all and I could not smiling the whole day because you kids
are really the sweetest kids. I really want to adopt each and every
single one of you. How can kids be so lovable!!!!! You kids are really
amazingly wonderful lah, to plan and execute such a wonderful
surprise. It really is one of the best surprises of my LIFE! And on my
first and last Teacher's Day...
And of course I gotta thank ALL OF YOU who bought me presents. Those
who didn't leave your names on the wrappers - it's a pity! I wanted to
know who gave me what so I could look at them and remember you all
forever. But I really must say, opening my presents made me feel like
it was my birthday all over again! I was really SUPERDUPER touched
with all my gifts. Veryveryvery adorable soft toys, and FUNCTIONAL
gifts which made me super pleased cos I can bring all my mugs and
post-it rollers and lotions and stationery kit and small bag over with
me to England to use, and of course all the lovely display items like
the slippers, the stars, the caterpillar paper holder, which I can put
on my desk and admire forever, and the nice accessories that I can
wear and look cool with. Not forgetting the yummy chocolates and
homemade cookies (I beat up my friends when they tried to steal my
cookies. Bloody thieves.) and also the very useful Strepsils for my
still horrible throat.
Also, I really ADORE the album!!! I LOVE the superman with a C sign.
(I am going to print a t-shirt with it. Hehe!) But what touched me
more were all the messages you all wrote which made me laugh to myself
like a maniac when I read it in the staffroom, which made me go "awww
shit, damn sweet!" out loud when I continued reading it in the cab,
which made my jealous friends go "wah, your students sound damn nice,
they want you ask them take lah, we don't want to friend you already."
Hahaha.
(Okay I am ending, I realise it's loooong) What I hope for you all, my
personal 1-Dearest is really that you kids do well in life. I hope you
all will never lose this sincerity you have in dealing with all your
teachers. I hope you all have wonderful inspirational teachers (like
me, AHEM. hahahaha!) because I seriously think you kids deserve only
the nicest teachers! I hope you all don't get boring old farts to
teach you boring subjects. I hope you guys continue to be united and
that you will be there for each other no matter what. I know some of
you have your differences with each other and that's natural since if
we all got along there would be no wars. It's just that I hope that
you guys will not ignore a classmate if you ever see him in trouble.
By trouble, I don't mean like getting robbed or getting abducted by
aliens. If you see your classmate being quieter or more depressed than
usual, I hope you will take the time to ask him/her if anything's
wrong. If you see your classmate struggling in a particular subject
which you happen to be good in, I hope you offer your help to him/her.
To me, friends are one of the most important things in life. You spend
so much time with each other that they're almost like family. I
consider some of the friends I've known since Sec 1 to be my bestest
friends, because they're the ones who have seen me through bad hair
and braces, tantrums and troubles, and when I felt like my parents
didn't understand me and my teachers had forsaken me, the only ones
who encouraged me and dared to scold me and pulled me back when I was
drifting from my path were my friends.
Okay, this has been a ridiculously long email. I think I spent over an
hour typing it. Wtf, man! I shall stop here, because I'm sure most of
you would have lost interest in it already. Hahaha.
Maybe I will send more emails to you guys when I'm bored and lonely in
England and missing the very warm and noisy 1D classroom. I hope you
guys don't forget me, because even though I'm your ex-teacher, I hope
that you guys will consider me a Friend from now on. If you ever need
help with anything, I am only an email away and I swear I will help
you (except if you email me for help with maths/science, then sorry I
think I will make your problem worse). And also, I will never ever
ever ever forget the thirty six of you, because you guys have REALLY
made the last ten weeks at Dunman High one of the best experiences of
my life, plus you guys gave me such an awesome ending that when I
stepped out of the gate I ALMOST ALMOST ALMOST felt like there was
water in my eyes (and you know how I like to act cool and I think that
crying is so not cool).
So, YES. This is going to be my last paragraph:
I have reallllly enjoyed being your LA teacher, even if it was only
for 10 weeks. Even though you all sometimes acted like "colossal cruel
ogres" and made me feel as loser-ish as Timothy Winters and made me
scared of "lessins" in "glassrooms", and I ended up thinking I would
be a "victim of a tale" (ALWAYSalwaysALWAYS....QUOTE!), I really
really really do love you guys and I'll miss you all TERRIBLY : (((((
Lovelove,
Miss Neo, your (ex-) LA teacher
